What Is a Matric Rewrite?

A matric rewrite allows you to:

Rewrite failed or underperforming subjects
Improve your APS score
Change your matric endorsement (e.g. Diploma → Bachelor)
Add or replace subjects to meet university or college requirements

You do not need to redo all your subjects. You may rewrite only the subjects you choose, provided NSC requirements are met.

Matric Rewrite Opportunities In South Africa

The following opportunities to rewrite matric subjects exist:

NSC Supplementary Exams — March

Learners who recently completed matric they may qualify to rewrite subjects through supplementary
examinations.

NSC Progressed Learners — June

Learners who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not complete all six subjects may qualify for the June examination opportunity.

Part-Time NSC Candidates — November

Learners who attempted the NSC examinations after 2015 may rewrite subjects through the November examination cycle.

Matric Pass Levels And Grades

After completing your matric rewrite, your results may fall into one of the following pass levels:

Bachelor’s Pass

Allows learners to apply for degree programmes at university.

Diploma Pass

Allows learners to apply for diploma programmes at colleges and institutions.

Higher Certificate Pass

Allows learners to apply for certificate programmes and certain further study opportunities.

  Being homeschooled was a different experience for me. Although I didn’t enjoy it very much, it was manageable and I was able to cope with the work. The teachers were supportive and explained the content well, which made learning easier. One teacher who stood out in particular was my Tourism teacher Mrs.Lize Kok, who was passionate and made the subject more interesting and enjoyable, please give her a raise if possible. Overall, while homeschooling was not my preferred learning environment, it still provided me with a stable education and helpful teachers
